Faced with the challenge of delivering a vast portfolio of IT and business-led technology projects, Adelaide University needed to rapidly expand its solution architecture capability. Internal resources alone couldn’t meet the scale and diversity of skills required, prompting the search for a trusted partner who could seamlessly integrate with the existing IT team and provide the expertise needed to ensure program success.
What Prompted Change?
The university was preparing to deliver one of its most significant portfolios of technology projects to date, spanning both IT and business-led initiatives. The scale, complexity, and diversity of these programs demanded solution architecture expertise well beyond existing internal capacity. To ensure delivery success, the university sought a preferred architecture partner who could provide immediate capability uplift and bring a broad skill set to support the entire technology portfolio.
Strategy in Action
Fragile to Agile was engaged through its Solution Architecture as a Service offering, giving the university the flexibility and scale needed to deliver its technology portfolio. Our solution architects were embedded directly into delivery teams, ensuring the right skills and capacity were in place to keep projects on track and within budget.
Each architect brought more than individual expertise, they were backed by a highly collaborative team with access to a vast network of experienced professionals across all architecture domains and industries. This collective capability was supported by road-tested methods, patterns, and frameworks, drawn from decades of high-impact engagements, to reduce risk and accelerate delivery.
Over the course of the two-year engagement, Fragile to Agile provided dedicated solution architects as well as additional specialist resources on an as-needed basis, ensuring the university could meet the demands of its ambitious program without compromising quality or timelines.
Delivering Meaningful Impact
The engagement delivered tangible outcomes across a diverse portfolio of initiatives. Fragile to Agile contributed to the design and delivery of a secure, anonymous reporting solution for serious misconduct, ensuring complete autonomy for the reporter and full integrity of each case. We also played a key role in delivering a new international student admissions and recruitment solution, completed in record time compared to typical sector implementations, with a highly detailed design enabling multiple international recruitment channels to leverage the platform.
Beyond individual project delivery, the university benefited from improvements to its architecture governance process and support for the market assessment of a strategic enterprise architecture tool. We also assisted in the architecture and design of an enhanced rollout of the university’s digital experience platform, along with a new forms management solution using open-source technology to streamline both internal and public-facing processes.
