About this service

The Business Intent Elucidation service determines and documents what outcomes your organisation desires its business and technology systems to support and where the focus should be; essentially, a statement of “what good looks like”. While often done to drive major (digital) transformation/technology roadmap development this service is suitable for ensuring any change agenda is business needs driven.

It delivers a statement of the Business Intent for your organisation covering current state issues that must be addressed (catering for any tactical imperatives and deadlines) as well as SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound) strategic outcomes for the future.

Why is it important?

It ensures that you are getting the maximum benefit from your investment. It does this by defining your strategy in terms of measurable outcomes which enable you to: derive features of your business and technology systems required to achieve those outcomes and in turn the benefits you will garner; enable you to develop a roadmap for change that is business outcomes (and benefits) driven and prioritised; and develop a set of business and technology design principles that govern that the elements of this roadmap are executed in way that minimises cost and risk and maximises benefits and future agility.

Finally, this step is key to achieving executive and board support and funding for the strategy and roadmap by converting often “fluffy” strategy into measurable outcomes and providing traceability from strategy to investment to benefits, enabling you to turn strategy into execution.

How we work with you

In full consultation with you a starting point set of business outcomes for your organisation will be developed leveraging existing enterprise and line of business strategy documentation. This will then be augmented with interviews with key stakeholders; Fragile to Agile IP; applicable ICT industry trends relevant to your organisation (e.g., Big Data, Cloud Computing, Robotic Process Automation, IoT); trends for your industry segment (e.g., Decarbonisation and decentralisation for the energy sector); and applicable research papers. This starting point will then be validated and augmented via a workshop with senior executives to produce a draft set of business outcomes which in turn undergo a traditional review and update cycle to produce the final version.
