Wine AustraliaOrganisation Overview
Wine Australia invests in research and development (R&D), marketing, disseminating knowledge, encouraging adoption and protecting the reputation of Australian wine. It works closely with representative organisations, wine sector bodies and partners to support the long-term success of the Australian grape and wine community. Its vision/long-term ambition is for Australia to be recognised as the world’s pre-eminent wine producer.
Wine Australia is an Australian Government statutory authority governed by the Australian Grape and Wine Authority Act 2013 (AGWA Act).
Its role under the Act is to:
- coordinate or fund grape and wine research and development (R&D), and facilitate the dissemination, adoption and commercialisation of the results
- control the export of wine from Australia, and
- increase the demand for Australian wine, both in Australia and overseas, through targeted promotion and marketing activities.
Fragile to Agile Engagement
Our initial engagement for Wine Australia was to develop a set of principles, policies and standards for information and data management to support their business plans to materially increase the breath and volume of data being gathered by the organisation (essentially to assist the organisation prepare for managing “big data”). These were well received and embedded into Wine Australia’s existing governance mechanisms. Consequently, we were then engaged to develop a partial Business Capability Model and Common Data Model covering the key areas (identified in prior engagement) where material changes would be required to support the future strategy.
