Credit Union SA

Organisation Overview

Credit Union SA is South Australia’s third largest credit union, with five branches, $1 billion in assets
and over 49,000 members. Credit Union SA was formed on 1 October 2009 by a merger between
former South Australian credit unions Satisfac and PowerState, which had their origins in the education
and industrial sectors respectively. Both organisations were renowned for their local knowledge.

As a customer owned banking organisation, they are not driven by the need to return dividends to
shareholders in the manner of the major banks. As a result, they’re able to channel the profits we
generate back to our membership and broader community. This is achieved in the form of innovative
new products and services, low fees, great interest rates, high levels of personal service, and
community development initiatives and project funding.

Fragile to Agile Engagement

Fragile to Agile was selected in 2017 to develop, in multiple stages, a business needs driven target
state for the credit union’s technology. The process followed was the standard Fragile to Agile roadmap
map development process, including all the elements depicted on the following diagram (noting that the
roadmap was just for core Digital Foundations projects and not a whole of technology refresh):

The target state was well received and endorsed by the executive; the roadmap is currently being
considered for funding and approval. The Digital foundations roadmap includes projects to address
gaps in ICT skills and process (e.g. architecture governance); select and implement an Integration
platform; select and implement a Business Process Management platform and implementation of key member and product origination processes on that platform.

In addition to the roadmap development we also delivered the following in a separate engagement:

  • Information/Data Strategy;
  • Data Reference Architecture and principles;
  • Integration Reference Architecture and principles;
  • Common Data Model (and canonical data model production guide);
  • Security Principles.
